Primii pasi in Email Marketing

O sa spuneti ca subiectul este unul de baza, dar in urma cu o saptamana, Chad White (retailemailblog.com), a lansat pe twitter “Why does the email industry spend so much time on the basics? Because the basics of email marketing are complicated.” (via @RetailEmailBlog).

In .com au aparut foarte multe articole despre email marketing.

In primul rand, pentru aprox.

Feedback…

In urma postului lui Chad White de pe twitter.com, am reactionat cu tweet-ul “Because the people are focused on increase website traffic and sending annoying spam messages… uof” (@AlexVolocaru).

In aprox. 1 ora, am primit si reply la “Why does the e’ industry spend so much time on the basics?”.

“Clients I’ve worked with yrs I still have to repeat the basics over and over, big challenge is getting them to drop hard sell. Basics are dismissed by so many…I’m in a constant fight wth clients about oversending, HTML vs img, why not to hard sell…” - Anna Yeaman (@stylecampaign).
“Because so many marketers fail at the basics” - Loren McDonald (@LorenMcDonald).
“Because most marketers don’t even get the basics yet” - Tamara Gielen (@tamaragielen).
“As long as most people still at bottom of learning curve, that’s where the conversation will focus. Can’t run before walking.” - Mark Brownlow (@MarkatEMR).
“Because people still DON’T get it!” - Rob Long (@RobOwen).

Cine sunt ‘cei 6 prieteni’?

Anna Yeaman - Email marketing, blogger & product photographer (stylecampaign.com).
Loren McDonald - Speaker/columnist on email marketing, lead automation, engagement marketing and VP, Industry Relations at Silverpop (silverpop.com).
Tamara Gielen - Independent email marketing consultant (tamaragielen.com).
Mark Brownlow - Owner of the Email Marketing Reports website which provides advice and resources on the topic (email-marketing-reports.com).
Rob Long - Email marketing consultant (coastalcontacts.com).

  1. Hi Alex,

your talking about spending so much time covering the basics reminded me of Mark Brownlow’s blog survey. Mark asked what readers would like to see more of and the winner was, More Advanced Topics. I already thought he was advanced lol…

I’m just curious what these advanced topics are, what do you think? Coding HTML newsletters, Deliverability or Case Studies….

  2. Dear Anna,

exactly… and thanks for your feedback! Hm, I think ‘Coding HTML’ and ‘Deliverability’ cover the basics in Email Marketing.

When you say ‘Case Studies’… now we can talk about Advanced Topics. But not only this. I think we have also email campaign tactics, new development challenges, list building practices based on innovation, and more, more… this type of advanced topics.

    Kindest regards,
    Alex

  3. Part of the “problem” is the growing gap between basic and advanced. Most people are still at the level where they need to learn the basics. But the people constantly reading blogs and immersing themselves in the topic are getting further and further ahead, demanding more and more sophisticated and nuanced approaches.

Not to mention there are subjects like deliverability which are increasingly technical.

So it’s hard to be a resource for everyone, because that gap is so big now. Beginners can easily get lost. Advanced folk don’t want to read another article on why you should be relevant.

  4. Mark, couldn’t agree more!

Also, it will be nice to see more inside studies, based on real clients and email projects. Not only what we have to do, how, and subjects like ‘5 steps to…’ etc. ;)

    Kindest regards,
    Alex
